EL SALVADOR CITY | The Divine Mercy Shrine

The Divine Mercy Shrine in El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental is a go-to place for Sacred Heart of Jesus Devotees. We would have to set it straight that this is not a tourist destination at all. For Catholics like me, this place is sacred and must be treated with utmost respect and love. The shrine was built quite some time now, but I only got to visit the church last November of 2014. My second visit and the first visit for this year 2015, just happened last January 3, 2015. It's my grandpa, and my two (2) siblings first visit.

If you're planning to visit the Divine Mercy Shrine, it would be best to attend mass there too. Here are the mass schedules for guidance.

The Divine Mercy Shrine is not a tourist destination. It's a religious shrine and should be treated with high respect.

Facts:

• The Divine Mercy Shrine is a Catholic monument in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, Philippines. 
• It features a 15.24-meter statue of Jesus as the Divine Mercy as the focal point of Divine Mercy Hills, a tract of land overlooking Macajalar Bay on the southern island of Mindanao.
• The nine-hectare land for the Shrine was purchased for a nominal amount, and the complex was paid for by donations.
• The shrine was completed in 2008 and serves as a pilgrimage site for Divine Mercy devotees.
• 200 steps up to reach the top where the statue is located.

Dress Code: 

Ladies be in your fitting clothes. Wear long skirts or dress preferably. If you're a traveler who's just passing by the Divine Mercy Shrine and wearing shorts or jeans, they do have available long skirts for rent.

To the Gentlemen, as much as possible don't wear shorts. Once again, this is not a tourist destination. It's a Catholic Monument.

The Divine Mercy Shrine at El Salvador City is popular because of the miraculous dancing sun that reflects the sun from the ring of the Divine Mercy during sunrise.

Miracles of the Dancing Sun:

• April 7, 2013, Feast Day of the Divine Mercy during the Dawn Mass. Over 15,000 devotees witness the dancing sun.
• EVE OF THE FEAST OF THE DIVINE MERCY. 6:00 PM, April 6, 2013, during the Holy Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Ma. Valles, FDM.

The miracles reached the Public and a lot of Catholic devotees visit the shrine since then.

As a sign of respect, if you do not believe in what Catholic's believe in, you don't have to go there and convince everyone, that what they believe in is wrong. Just don't go there, that simple.
